Liver Cirrhosis

Cirrhosis is a condition where scarring damages the liver. This can block the blood flow through the liver, affecting its function. Because the liver participates in many different functions in the body like digestion, blood clotting, breaking down alcohol and drugs, and storage of vitamins and minerals, cirrhosis may lead to serious health complications.

Regenerative properties of mesenchymal stem cells are being explored for treating liver cirrhosis. They have been used to regenerate scarred liver tissue in mice.
